Sooner or later, every application gets the same request: "Can we add a dashboard?" Then come the follow-ups. Each customer should see only their own data. Users want to export statements to PDF. Leadership wants to ask questions in plain English. Power BI can handle all of it, but only if you treat it as a developer platform instead of a separate tool that lives off to the side.
In this demo-heavy session, we'll build analytics into a customer-facing portal from start to finish. You'll embed Power BI reports using the JavaScript SDK and embed tokens, with multi-tenant row-level security so every customer sees exactly what they should. We'll connect the reports to the app with events and filters, add exports and pixel-perfect paginated reports, and write a custom visual in TypeScript for when the built-in visuals fall short. Next, we'll automate customer onboarding with the Power BI REST APIs and bring reports under source control with PBIP and Git. Finally, we'll put a coding agent to work on the model with the Power BI Authoring MCP server, then add an "Ask your data" experience to the portal, built so the AI respects the same row-level security as the rest of your app.
You will learn:
- How to embed Power BI in your apps with secure, multi-tenant row-level security, and how to drive reports from application code
- How to extend and automate Power BI with custom visuals, the REST APIs, and Git-based workflows
- How to add trustworthy AI-powered Q&A over your reporting data with Copilot, MCP, and custom agents
