This is now a transition period from older versions of Windows into Windows 10. You probably can't change everything at once, so you need a strategy for gradual replacement of old technologies. Plus you have to balance several factors in choosing the platform you will use for a new or substantially revamped business app: your OS infrastructure, your team's technical capabilities, the lifespan of your new version, desktop vs. mobile, and many others. In this session, you work through typical decision points. You'll discuss desktop and web technologies and their fit for different scenarios, going into particular depth on WPF vs. the Universal Windows Platform. You'll look at integration possibilities, and options for bringing older technologies forward as part of a new system. If you're on the cusp of a new generation of desktop apps in your business, or need to add substantial capabilities to your existing apps, this session offers some helpful guidance on your options.

You will learn:

  • About the technology options in the near term for developing desktop business applications
  • Lifespan considerations for the major technology choices for desktop apps
  • Integration possibilities for bringing functionality in older technologies forward to be part of a version on a new platform
