Karen Lopez

Data Evangelist, Space Enthusiast, & NASA Datanaut

We will look at the core services of Microsoft Azure Data Platform offerings. Topics that may be included are:

  • Azure SQL DB
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Azure Databricks
  • Azure Synapse (formerly Azure Data Warehouse)
  • Azure Cosmos DB
  • Azure Storage
  • Azure Stream Analytics
  • Azure Monitoring
  • Azure ML
  • Azure Defender/Security

We'll wrap up with the ways data professionals can get hands-on training and usage credits to learn on their own.

You will learn:

  • Understand the data-related service offerings in Azure
  • Understand the costs and benefits of each Azure Data Platform Offering
  • Understand how these azure data services can work together

Please see the following note from the speakers detailing everything that needs to be completed PRIOR to the class on Monday.

We are happy you will be joining us for our Intro to Azure Data Platform session. These are the steps you need to take prior to arriving in Orlando.

Action One – Complete these forms

In order to set up your lab environments and to share information during the class, Karen needs to collect some information via an online form:

https://forms.office.com/r/u0CaEp8BBn

https://forms.office.com/r/sLYi6n2jns

The data collected will be used only to provide resources for your course and to assist you during the event. Please ensure you provide a working e-mail address that you will be checking frequently between now and the event.

Action Two – Test your computer

You will need to test your class computer for the ability to access the Azure Portal and our learning platform. This must be completed before attending the course. We are expecting that attendees will be participating via a computer that is able to connect to Azure. Please complete this lab as soon as you can and before our course starts.

Most devices will have no issue connecting to these websites, but with some rare cases, company-issued devices and corporate VPNs, could have restricted access. If you have issues connecting via a corporate device, please contact your company’s tech support to see if you can have this restriction lifted while you are in class.

https://Portal.azure.com You should see a login screen. You will be issued credentials to use once you are in class, so your test is complete at this point.

https://teamdatalab.infoadvisors.com/ You should see a login screen. You will be issued credentials later, so your test is complete at this point.

Please email [email protected] if you have any issues with your test. Please don’t contact the event organizers as they can’t help you with these environments.

Your device will need to be able to connect to the event Wi-Fi or your own personal hotspot, as no wired connections to the Internet will be provided.

Class Day

As this is a full-day class, you should bring a fully-powered device with your power cord. If you do not have a device you can bring, that’s okay as we will be putting you in small groups where only one laptop is required. Many groups, though, like to use multiple devices for accessing lab instructions and reference documents.

This class will be hands-on and interactive. The course will flow with content, then demos or labs for most modules. We highly encourage you to take notes during the demos to help you be more successful during the labs. All labs must be completed on the Azure resources we are providing; attempting to do them in other environments will likely be unsuccessful.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone next week. You should check our blogs and follow us on Twitter (@datachick, @SQLRockstar) to stay informed of any last-minute changes.
