SharePoint 2013 changes the game for developing inside the SharePoint environment. In the past you could create web parts and pages that lived inside the SharePoint application. This development was limited to working in C# or VB.Net and running in the context of SharePoint. The new model removes the boundaries; you can now develop your SharePoint Apps in any web based language, from PHP to HTML5 and JavaScript. These new apps can now be hosted locally in the SharePoint environment or in the cloud.
