VSLive! After Dark
Community Event: The Future of .NET
Featuring: Josh Holmes, Rocky Lhotka, Jesse Liberty, Richard Hundhausen and John Papa.
Moderated by Richard Hale Shaw, VSLive! Dallas Conference Chair
Tuesday, December 9 — 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.
A Client walks into a bar...and asks you to design and implement a “Greenfield” application: one that has no legacy ties to anything the client already has. (Ok, so we already know that’s a lie, but humor me.) You’re given the opportunity to build an entirely new application with a clean sheet of paper, and you can pick and choose whatever technologies you want for the front-end, the middle-tier, the DAL, etc. You can use any part of .NET that you want. Will you use Silverlight or strict WPF? What about ASP.NET? Will you architect it with Services using WCF — or will you wait until Windows Azure? And when it comes to the DAL: which one of those gazillion Data Access technologies do you choose from?
Get your answers at the .NET Community event of the year: 3 independent speakers and 2 others — formerly independent who have recently “gone over to the Dark Side” — offering you their views on the Future of .NET.
Note: this event is being hosted at VSLive! In the Adolphus Hotel, but is open to the public, and a specific invitation is being held out to members of the Dallas-area .NET User Groups and VSLive! Dallas attendees.

Wednesday, December 10 — 6:15 – 7:30 p.m.
Dave Laribee and Scott Bellware are joined by Josh Holmes for a look at agile methods, open source, and software design for .NET developers. This interactive session answers your questions about test-driven development, object-relational mapping, patterns, OO design principles, MVC, Scrum, XP, domain-driven design, and many other contemporary issues in .NET software development.
Topics for the evening are decided by the audience and then facilitated by the hosts in a unique format that is intended to provide the exact information that you're looking for and gives you a chance to ask the questions that you need answers to and to present the challenging ideas that you'd like to see addressed. This unique event makes your experience part of the whole conference experience.
